Håkon Thelin
Håkon Thelin studied with Professor Knut Guettler at The Norwegian Academy of Music and now teaches there. He is a member of the contemporary music ensembles musikFabrik and Ensemble Modern and of the trio POING. POING has taken him on tour all over the world, with premieres of more than 70 works and cooperation with musicians in nearly every genre. In 2011 the trio were artistic directors for the Ultima Festival, Scandinavias biggest festival of contemporary music. Håkon Thelin has researched and presented a range of new performance techniques for the double bass. His first solo CD A preference to other things was issued in 2004. A second CD called Light, with Thelins own compositions for double bass, was issued in spring 2011. Light won a Norwegian Grammy Award in 2011 in the category contemporary music In his exploration of music in the intersection between folk music and contemporary music he has worked closely with the folk singer Unni Løvlid. The duo issued the album LUX in 2013.
