Frode Haltli
began to play the acccordeon at the age of seven. In the next few years he won the soloist prize in the Norwegian Championship seven times, and was awarded the Jury Prize in the final of Norwegian TVs Talentia in1991. He studied at the Norwegian Academy of Music and the Royal Danish Academy of Music. At the 2000 Bergen Festival Haltli was elected Concert Norways Young Soloist of the Year 2001 His critically praised debut CD «Looking on Darkness» (ECM) won the Spellemann Prize in 2002 in the category contemporary music. «Passing Images» (ECM) in 2007 was also much praised in Norway and abroad. Halti has performed at festivals and concerts in Europe, Russia, the US and Asia and has been a soloist with a number of orchestras all over the world. Here at home he has played frequently on radio and TV and CD recordings, and given concerts around Norway. Halti plays in the trio POING with Rolf­Erik Nystrøm on saxophone and Håkon Thelin on bass. He also plays Norwegian folk music with Trygve Seim (ECM) and musicians like Gjermund Larsen, Vegar Vårdal and Unni Løvlid. Haltli teaches accordeon at the Norwegian College of Music.
