Dear Friends of the Festival,

We are working hard with plans for a new shared musical experience in August 2021. We are cautiously optimistic, but well aware that a lot can happen between now and August.

The artistic board is in the process of finalising the official programme, but there are also a plan B and a plan C in reserve. The festival programme will be announced, and tickets will go on sale, in the beginning of June, but we thought we would share some of this plan with you.

The first piece of news is that the artistic committee has revived an old tradition of the festival, that is, collaboration with a graphic artist. Several of Nico Widerberg’s pictures will be a part of the festival’s visual profile, and there are plans for an exhibition of his work in connection with the festival. You can read more about it here.

The newest members of our artistic board, Vilde Frang and Marianne Beate Kjelland, who have both performed in the festival previously, will be first out. Vilde will be first, playing the baroque violin with the Barokkarnerne, with two of Bach’s violin concertos, and Marianne Beate will be presenting a programme of Handel’s music together with Oslo Circles. In addition we shall be celebrating Olav Anton Thommessen’s 75th birthday with a new piano concerto and a first performance of a chamber opera by Bjørn Kruse and Lars Saabye Christensen. In the final weekend of the festival there will be a performance of Haydn’s Creation by the Oslo Cathedral Choir and the Norwegian Broadcasting Service’s orchestra with soloists. There are also to hold concerts in composers’ homes in the Oslo area, and there will be free outdoor concerts on several days during the festival on the festival stage in “Spikersuppe” just in front of the National Theatre. We hope all this will leave you looking forward eagerly to this year’s festival.

In addition to planning the programme, we are very much concerned with our audiences. This is just to let you know that you will, as always, be warmly welcomed and taken care of at the Oslo Chamber Music Festival and that both staff and our volunteers will be working consciously for you to have a safe experience with us.

Follow us in our various sources of information, and feel free to contact us if you have any questions.

With warm greetings from all of us at the Oslo Chamber Music Festival.
