It is a pleasure to welcome you to this year's opening concert for the Oslo Chamber Music Festival. This year's festival theme is Lux Eterna - the eternal light. And what could be brighter and more beautiful than opening the entire festival with Mozart's Violin Sonata No. 35 in A major? Mozart wrote the violin sonata just after he had finished Eine kleine Nachtmusik, and perhaps inspired by it, we get unusually fast tempos and a sense of Mozart's genius as a composer. Brilliant, quite simply, with the eminent performers Guro Kleven Hagen and Leif Ove Andsnes.

From Mozart we move on to Berlioz's bright summer nights, where Marianne Beate Kielland and Wolfgang Plagge convey longing love in two beautiful songs. And we follow up with two songs by Lili Boulanger, which bring us to the main work of the evening, Louis Vierne's piano quintet.

No light without darkness. In this quintet we come into contact with dark currents. Vierne, who was almost blind, wrote this piano quintet as a memorial to his son and brother. Both fell at the front during the First World War. With an almost symphonic instrumental intensity, the quintet is a shining example of French chamber music at its best, and is considered one of Vierne's masterpieces. The quintet doesn't show up too often in concert programmes, so here's a rare opportunity to experience it performed by a star team of musicians: Leif Ove Andsnes, Elise Båtnes, Liv Hilde Klokk-Bryhn, Ida Klokk-Bryhn and Louisa Tuck. This is set to be an experience you won't forget. Secure your tickets now!
