Vi feirer Felix Mendelssohn som en av de viktigste romantiske komponistene, som virtuos utøver – og som en av de første dirigentene i den moderne tradisjonen! I løpet av sitt relativt korte liv – han døde som bare 38-åring – rakk han å sette sammen et imponerende repertoar av musikk vi fremdeles holder kjær i dag.
På kveldens siste konsert skal vi innom noen av Mendelssohns høydepunkt. Elisabeth Brauß spiller utvalgte stykker fra Sanger uten ord, en serie korte, lyriske stykker som ble skrevet gjennom hele Mendelssohns liv og regnes som hans mest personlige og populære bidrag til piano-litteraturen.
Hans Oktett i Ess-dur, op. 20, regnes som en av de største verkene i kammermusikkrepertoaret – enda mer imponerende er det at Mendelssohn bare var 16 år gammel da han komponerte det! Mendelssohn skrev selv i partituret at det måtte spilles i en «symfonisk orkesterstil», og verket har en smittsom ungdommelig glød og energi. Med Eldbjørg Hemsing i spissen, er dette en sikker fulltreffer.

We are celebrating Felix Mendelssohn as one of the most important Romantic composers, as a virtuoso performer – and as one of the first conductors in the modern tradition! During his relatively short life – he died aged just 38 – he managed to compile an impressive repertoire of music that we still cherish today.
At tonight’s final concert, we shall explore some of Mendelssohn’s highlights. Elisabeth Brauß performs selected pieces from Songs Without Words, a series of short, lyrical pieces written throughout Mendelssohn’s life and regarded as his most personal and popular contribution to the piano repertoire.
His Octet in E-flat major, Op. 20, is regarded as one of the greatest works in the chamber music repertoire – even more impressive is the fact that Mendelssohn was only 16 years old when he composed it! Mendelssohn himself wrote in the score that it should be played in a “symphonic orchestral style”, and it possesses a contagious youthful fervour and energy. With Eldbjørg Hemsing at the helm, this is sure to be a hit.
