Eldbjørg Hemsing er født i Valdres og begynte å spille fiolin da hun var fem år gammel. Hun studerte ved Barratt Due i Oslo og med Professor Boris Kuschnir i Wien. Eldbjørg er i dag ansett som en av de fremste utøverne i den rike norske musikktradisjonen.
Høydepunkter fra tidligere sesonger inkluderer konserter med Bergen Filharmoniske Orkester ved åpningen av Festspillene i Bergen i 2020, og med Vancouver Symphony Orchestra, Zürcher Kammerorchester, MDR Sinfonieorchester Leipzig, Shanghai Philharmonic Orchestra og Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra.
I mars 2018 slapp Eldbjørg sitt debutalbum med fiolinkonserter av Hjalmar Borgstrøm og Dmitrij Sjostakovitsj, spilt inn med Wiener Symphoniker og Olari Elis. Den så langt siste innspillingen hennes, Griegs sonater på BIS, har mottatt svært gode kritikker.
Eldbjørg er en ivrig kammermusiker og har vært med på fremføringer på blant annet Mozartwoche Salzburg, Dialoge Festival Salzburg, Musikwoche Bad Berleburg og på sin egen festival, Hemsingfestivalen.
Eldbjørg Hemsing was born in Valdres and began playing the violin at the age of five. She studied at Barratt Due in Oslo and with Professor Boris Kuschnir in Vienna. Eldbjørg is today considered one of the foremost performers in the rich Norwegian musical tradition.
Highlights from previous seasons include concerts with the Bergen Philharmonic Orchestra at the opening of the Bergen International Festival in 2020, and with the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra, the Zürcher Kammerorchester, the MDR Sinfonieorchester Leipzig, the Shanghai Philharmonic Orchestra and the Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra.
In March 2018, Eldbjørg released her debut album of violin concertos by Hjalmar Borgstrøm and Dmitri Shostakovich, recorded with the Wiener Symphoniker and Olari Elis. Her most recent recording so far, Grieg’s sonatas at BIS, has received very good reviews.
Eldbjørg is an avid chamber musician and has performed at Mozartwoche Salzburg, Dialoge Festival Salzburg, Musikwoche Bad Berleburg and his own festival, the Hemsingfestivalen.

István Várdai regnes blant sin generasjons fremste cellister, og er kjent for sin smittende spilleglede, rytmiske vitalitet og elegante uttrykk i sine dyptfølte tolkninger av både solo-, kammer- og orkesterrepertoar. Han beveger seg mellom sjangre og epoker, og forener teknikk med musikalsk dybde.
Ved siden av styrevervet i Oslo Kammermusikkfestival, er Isván medkurator for Kaposfest Kammermusikkfestival i Ungarn, som han leder sammen med fiolinisten Kristóf Baráti. Festivalen samler hvert år noen av verdens fremste musikere og har etablert seg som et sentralt møtested for kammermusikk på høyt internasjonalt nivå.
Ved siden av sitt kunstneriske lederskap opprettholder Várdai en omfattende internasjonal solistkarriere, med engasjementer hos ledende orkestre og et repertoar som spenner fra Johann Sebastian Bach til samtidskomponister som Péter Eötvös. I sesongen 2023/24 vendte han tilbake til Finnish Radio Symphony Orchestra for konserter i Helsinki og på turné i Amsterdam, samt til Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra og BBC Symphony Orchestra i Storbritannia. Blant sesongens debuter finner man opptredener med SWR under ledelse av Patrick Hahn i Blochs Schelomo.

István Várdai is regarded as one of the leading cellists of his generation and is renowned for his infectious joy of playing, rhythmic vitality, and elegant expression in his deeply felt interpretations of solo, chamber, and orchestral repertoire alike. Moving freely between genres and historical periods, he combines technical mastery with profound musical depth.
Alongside his role on the board of the Oslo Chamber Music Festival, Várdai serves as co-curator of the Kaposfest Chamber Music Festival in Hungary, which he leads together with violinist Kristóf Baráti. Each year, the festival brings together some of the world’s foremost musicians and has established itself as a key international meeting place for chamber music at the highest level.
In parallel with his artistic leadership, Várdai maintains an extensive international solo career, appearing with leading orchestras and performing a repertoire ranging from Johann Sebastian Bach to contemporary composers such as Péter Eötvös. In the 2023/24 season, he returned to the Finnish Radio Symphony Orchestra for concerts in Helsinki and on tour in Amsterdam, as well as to the Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra and the BBC Symphony Orchestra in the United Kingdom. Among the season’s debuts were performances with the SWR Symphony Orchestra under the direction of Patrick Hahn in Bloch’s Schelomo.

Wolfgang Plagge begynte å spille klaver som fireåring, og som tolvåring debuterte han som pianist i Universitetets Aula. Wolfgang har studert klaverspill i Oslo og musikkhøgskolen i Hamburg. Hans komposisjonslærere i Norge var Øistein Sommerfeldt og Johan Kvandal, og i Tyskland studerte han med György Ligeti. Wolfgang begynte å komponere allerede som barn, og har nå en omfattende verkliste med stort innholdsmessig spenn.
Som klaversolist og kammermusiker er Wolfgang aktiv over hele verden, og han samarbeider med en rekke av våre mest anerkjente musikere, både innenlands og utenlands.
Wolfgang har en sterk forkjærlighet for historisk og musikkhistorisk forskning, noe hans komposisjoner ofte bærer preg av. Han har utviklet et egenrådig og engasjerende tonespråk som har skaffet ham et stort publikum og begeistrede utøvere over hele kloden.

Wolfgang Plagge started playing the piano at the age of four, and at the age of twelve he made his debut as a pianist at the University’s Assembly Hall. Wolfgang studied piano in Oslo and at the Hamburg Academy of Music. His composition teachers in Norway were Øistein Sommerfeldt and Johan Kvandal, and in Germany he studied with György Ligeti. Wolfgang began composing as a child and now has an extensive list of works with a wide range of content.
As a piano soloist and chamber musician, Wolfgang is active all over the world, collaborating with a number of our most renowned musicians, both at home and internationally.
Wolfgang has a strong interest in historical and music historical research, which is often reflected in his compositions. He has developed an idiosyncratic and engaging tonal language that has earned him a large audience and enthusiastic performers across the globe.
Over the years, Wolfgang has additionally gained a large audience as a popular lecturer and communicator of music, including through numerous programs on NRK (Norwegian Broadcasting Corporation). He has been affiliated with the Norwegian Academy of Music since 2002, and been a professor there since 2009.

Den norske fiolinisten Elise Båtnes har siden 2008 vært innstilt som første konsertmester i Oslo Filharmoniske Orkester, en posisjon hun tidligere har hatt ved Danmark Radio Symfoniorkester og WDR Symfoniorkester i Köln. I tillegg er hun ansatt som professor ved Norges Musikkhøgskole.
Hun har studert med Dorothy DeLay i USA, Ruggiero Ricci i Salzburg, David Takeino i London og Arve Tellefsen i Oslo. Båtnes opptrer som solist med alle de norske symfoniorkestrene i fiolinkonserter av blant andre Alban Berg, Sibelius, Tchaikovsky, Beethoven, Mendelssohn, Bernstein, Mozart og Bruch. Hun er også solist med orkestre i Skandinavia, Tyskland, Belgia og Frankrike. Videre har hun gjort en rekke recital konserter og TV/Radio-overføringer i Europa og USA.
Båtnes har også vunnet Spellemannprisen for kammermusikkinnspillingen med strykekvartetten Vertavo. Hun er også den første prisvinneren av Melbourne International Chamber Music Competition. Andre soloinnspillinger på LAWO inkluderer Bartók og Prokofiev fiolinsonater med pianisten Håvard Gimse.
Elise spiller på en Stradivarius-fiolin ‘The Arditti’, datert 1689, på livstidslån fra Dextra Musica Norway.
Norwegian born violinist, Elise Båtnes is the first concertmaster of the Oslo philharmonic, a post which she has held since 2008.
She first played with the Oslo Philharmonic as a soloist when she was 10 years old under the baton of Maestro Mariss Jansons. Prior to Oslo she was first concert master of both WDR Köln and the Danish Radio Symphony Orchestra. Elise is in great demand as a guest concertmaster all over Europe.
Recently including; Chamber Orchestra of Europe, London Symphony Orchestra, Teatro Real Madrid and Philharmonia and City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra.
Away from orchestra playing, she has won a Norwegian Grammy, Spellemannprisen for chamber music recordings with the Vertavo String Quartet. She is also 1st prize winner of the Melbourne International Chamber Music competition. Other solo recordings on the LAWO label include Bartók and Prokofiev violin sonates with the pianist Håvard Gimse.
Elise is a professor of violin at the Norwegian Academy of Music. She plays on a Stradivarius violin ‘The Arditti’, dated 1689, generously on lifetime loan from Dextra Musica Norway.

Jadran Duncumb er en engelsk-kroatisk-norsk luttenist. Hans musikerkarriere startet som gitarist i 2008, og som elev ved Barratt Due musikkinstitutt med Vegard Lund som lærer, var han finalist både i NRK Virtuos og i BBC Young Musician of the Year, noe som ledet til debutkonsert i Wigmore Hall.I 2016, etter nesten fire åre med utallige timer på lutt, teorbe og barokkgitar med Rolf Lislevand som lærer, tok han diplom cum laude i lutt og bassocontinuo ved den statlige musikkhøyskolen i Trossingen, Tyskland. Det samme året vant han førstepris i verdens eneste internasjonale luttkonkuranse, «Maurizio Pratola» i L’Aquila, Italia, noe som første til hans første internasjonale invitasjoner som luttsolist.
I tillegg til å være Barokkanerne faste luttenist, fremfører han hovedsakelig solo og kammermusikk på lutt og historiske gitarer. Hans karakteristiske basso continuo-spill har vært rost av blant andre Diapason for fyldigheten, sensitiviteten og virtuositeten det viser.

Hans første solo-CD kom ut i 2018 på franske Audax Records med musikk fra høybarokken av Sylvius Weiss og Johann Hasse, mens første volum av Bach’s luttmusikk kom ut i februar 2021 på samme etikett og mottok den franske utmerkelsen “Diapason d’or”.
Jadran Duncumb is an English-Croatian-Norwegian lutenist. His musical career began as a guitarist in 2008, and as a student at the Barratt Due Institute of Music with Vegard Lund as his teacher, he was a finalist in both NRK Virtuos and BBC Young Musician of the Year, which led to a debut concert at Wigmore Hall. In 2016, after nearly four years of countless hours spent on lute, theorbo, and baroque guitar with Rolf Lislevand as his teacher, he graduated cum laude with a diploma in lute and basso continuo from the State University of Music in Trossingen, Germany. The same year, he won first prize in the world’s only international lute competition, the “Maurizio Pratola” in L’Aquila, Italy, which led to his first international invitations as a lute soloist.
In addition to being the principal lutenist for the early music ensemble Barokkanerne, he mainly performs solo and chamber music on lute and historical guitars. His characteristic basso continuo playing has been praised by, among others, Diapason for its fullness, sensitivity, and virtuosity.
As a chamber musician, he has appeared in Europe’s most important concert halls with musicians such as Giuliano Carmignola, Lina Tur Bonet, Johannes Pramsohler, Kinga Ujszászi, and Giovanni Sollima. His first solo CD was released in 2018 on the French label Audax Records, featuring music from the high Baroque by Sylvius Weiss and Johann Hasse, while the first volume of Bach’s lute music was released in February 2021 on the same label and received the French distinction “Diapason d’or”

Paul Hughes begynte i BBC i 1999, hvor han var direktør for BBC Symphony Orchestra and Chorus og direktør for BBC Singers. Han er utdannet ved Trinity College of Music, hvor han studerte piano, komposisjon og direksjon. Før han begynte i BBC, hadde Paul ledende stillinger ved Academy of Ancient Music, IMG Artists, Royal Scottish National Orchestra og Monteverdi Choir and Orchestra.
Gjennom hele sin karriere har han vært drevet av et engasjement for kulturell utvikling, å åpne tilgangen for nye og mangfoldige publikum, og å samarbeide med et bredt spekter av kunstnere fra klassisk musikk, rock og pop, litteratur og fjernsyn.

Prior to joining the BBC, Paul held senior leadership positions with the Academy of Ancient Music, IMG Artists, the Royal Scottish National Orchestra, and the Monteverdi Choir and Orchestra.
Throughout his career, he has been driven by a commitment to cultural change, expanding access to new and diverse audiences, and collaborating with a broad spectrum of artists from classical music, rock and pop, literature, and television.
A former Governor of the Guildhall School of Music & Drama, Paul is dedicated to discovering and supporting the next generation of musicians. He is a guest lecturer at several of the UK’s leading conservatoires, where he mentors young conductors, composers, and arts administrators.
Paul is an honorary member of Trinity College of Music, the Guildhall School of Music & Drama, and the Royal College of Music, and has recently been honoured by the Finnish government for services to Finnish music. He is regularly invited to serve as a juror for international music competitions.
