Torun Sæter Stavseng er en norsk cellist, aktiv som kammermusiker og orkesterleder. Hun er solocellist i Aurora Orchestra London og alt.solo i Kringkastingsorkestret samt medlem av DNK musikerkollektivet og Cikada Ensemble som har spilt ved ledende saler og festivaler i hele Europa.
Torun har sin utdannelse ved Barratt Due Musikkinstitutt Oslo, Musikhochschule Stuttgart og fullførte sin solistdiplom ved Edsberg/KMH Stockholm i 2010. Siden har hun hatt en bred freelancekarriere der hun har etablert flere kammermusikkgrupper og kammerensembler, bla. Duo TÖ med pianist Anna Christensson, stryketrioen TrioTaus med Liv Hilde og Ida Klokk-Bryhn og to cellotrioer. Med pianotrioen Friis/Larsdotter/Stavseng ble de i 2025 Grammisnominert for sin plateinnspilling med musikk av Bo Linde.
Torun brenner for å utvide repertoaret og har samarbeidet med mange komponister og fått stykker skrevet til seg og sine ensembler.
Hun startet og drev kammermusikkserien Krantz i Oslo fra 2016-2022.
Torun har undervist ved konservatoriet i Tromsø og gjester gjevnlig ulike mesterklasser og talentprogrammer som lærer og mentor.
Torun spiller på en cello av Matteo Goffriller generøst utlånt av Sparebankstiftelsen.
Torun Sæter Stavseng is a Norwegian cellist, active as a chamber musician and orchestra leader. She is principal cellist with the Aurora Orchestra in London and alternate principal cellist with the Norwegian Radio Orchestra, as well as a member of the DNK musicians’ collective and the Cikada Ensemble, which has performed at leading concert halls and festivals throughout Europe.
Torun trained at the Barratt Due Music Institute in Oslo and the Musikhochschule in Stuttgart, and completed her soloist diploma at Edsberg/KMH in Stockholm in 2010. Since then, she has enjoyed a wide-ranging freelance career, during which she has established several chamber music groups and ensembles, including Duo TÖ with pianist Anna Christensson, the string trio TrioTaus with Liv Hilde and Ida Klokk-Bryhn, and two cello trios. With the piano trio Friis/Larsdotter/Stavseng, they were nominated for a Grammis Award in 2025 for their recording of music by Bo Linde.
Torun is passionate about expanding her repertoire and has collaborated with many composers, commissioning works for herself and her ensembles.
She founded and ran the Krantz chamber music series in Oslo from 2016 to 2022.
Torun has taught at the Tromsø Conservatoire and regularly takes part in various masterclasses and talent programmes as a teacher and mentor.
Torun plays a cello by Matteo Goffriller, generously loaned by Sparebankstiftelsen.
