Trio no Treble er i utradisjonell tro en trio med bratsj, cello og kontrabass – en trio uten diskant, kun mørke røster og dyp klang. Trioen består av Ivan Penjin (bratsj), Eivind Rossbach Heier (cello) og Jostein Bolås Brødreskift (kontrabass).
Trioen ble stiftet i 2017 og har siden spilt en rekke suksessfulle konserter i Norge, Sverige, Danmark, Tyskland, Spania, Serbia, Hong Kong og Nepal. I Norge har de spilt konserter over hele landet, blant annet som festivaltrio på Festspillene i Kristiansund og i Mosjøen. De har i flere år hatt samarbeid med Musikk i Nordland, med stor suksess med konseptet «pubquiz» og slagordet «store opplevelser på små plasser». Trio no Treble har også regelmessige engasjement gjennom Den kulturelle skolesekken i Trondheim, Troms og Finnmark.
Trioen har vært scenemusikere under oppsetninger av Czardasfyrstinnen ved Operaen i Kristiansund og Operaen i Stjørdal. I desember 2021 og 2022 var de på juleturné sammen med Elisabeth «Bettan» Andreassen, Are Hembre og Trond Hustad.
I 2026 slipper Trio no Treble album sammen med folkemusikeren Ronny Kjøsen. Albumet utgis av LAWO Classics. De skal også opptre under Oslo og Stavanger Kammermusikkfestival.
I 2025 spilte trioen egen konsert i Hong Kong, samarbeidet med den nepalesiske artisten Rachana Dahal, var på turné i Spania og gjennomførte en ny pubquiz-turné i Nordland.
I 2023 og 2024 hadde trioen en scenisk rolle i Opera di Setra sin oppsetning av Flåklypa – Tidenes Opera. De spilte også konserter med fiolinistene Marianne Thorsen og Alex Robson, samt gjennomførte to turnéer til Nepal.
I 2022 spilte de blant annet konserter i Konzerthaus Berlin og Gewandhaus i Leipzig.
I 2020 ga Trio no Treble ut to album: ett klassisk album med blant annet Trygve Brøske sitt bestillingsverk Trio (no) Trouble, samt et julealbum. Begge albumene mottok strålende kritikker. Trioen samarbeider med en rekke musikere, blant annet Rasmus Rohde og Klaus Sonstad.
Trio no Treble har også opptrådt på VG-lista sammen med Mads Hansen og har i flere år hatt en musikalsk julekalender på sosiale medier, der selveste Stephen Fry medvirket i en av lukene.
Trioen er kjent for sin lekne tilnærming til klassisk musikk, folkemusikk og spreke tolkninger av ny popmusikk, og spiller musikk i alle sjangre og til alle anledninger. Under koronapandemien samarbeidet trioen blant annet med Arve Tellefsen og ble omtalt i det britiske magasinet The Strad hele tre ganger.
Medlemmene i Trio no Treble er allsidige musikere med regelmessige engasjementer i blant annet Trondheimsolistene og Trondheim Symfoniorkester. Alle har bachelor- og mastergrad fra NTNU Institutt for musikk, samt studieopphold i Tyskland, Sveits og Sverige.
Trio no Treble is an unconventional trio featuring a viola, cello and double bass – a trio without treble, consisting solely of dark tones and deep resonance. The trio comprises Ivan Penjin (viola), Eivind Rossbach Heier (cello) and Jostein Bolås Brødreskift (double bass).
The trio was founded in 2017 and has since played a number of successful concerts in Norway, Sweden, Denmark, Germany, Spain, Serbia, Hong Kong and Nepal. In Norway, they have performed concerts across the country, including as a festival trio at the Kristiansund and Mosjøen festivals. For several years, they have collaborated with Musikk i Nordland, enjoying great success with the ‘pub quiz’ concept and the slogan ‘great experiences in small venues’. Trio no Treble also has regular engagements through Den kulturelle skolesekken in Trondheim, Troms and Finnmark.
The trio have performed as stage musicians in productions of The Csárdás Princess at the Kristiansund Opera and the Stjørdal Opera. In December 2021 and 2022, they went on a Christmas tour with Elisabeth ‘Bettan’ Andreassen, Are Hembre and Trond Hustad.
In 2026, Trio no Treble will release an album together with folk musician Ronny Kjøsen. The album will be released by LAWO Classics.
In 2025, the trio gave a concert of their own in Hong Kong, collaborated with the Nepalese artist Rachana Dahal, toured Spain and undertook a new pub quiz tour in Nordland.
In 2023 and 2024, the trio had a stage role in Opera di Setra’s production of Flåklypa – Tidenes Opera. They also performed concerts with violinists Marianne Thorsen and Alex Robson, as well as undertaking two tours to Nepal.
In 2022, they performed concerts at venues including the Konzerthaus Berlin and the Gewandhaus in Leipzig.
In 2020, Trio no Treble released two albums: a classical album featuring, among other works, Trygve Brøske’s commissioned piece Trio (no) Trouble, and a Christmas album. Both albums received rave reviews. The trio collaborates with a number of musicians, including Rasmus Rohde and Klaus Sonstad.
Trio no Treble has also appeared on the VG-lista alongside Mads Hansen and has for several years hosted a musical Christmas calendar on social media, with Stephen Fry himself featuring in one of the entries.
The trio is known for its playful approach to classical music, folk music and lively interpretations of new pop music, and plays music across all genres and for all occasions. During the coronavirus pandemic, the trio collaborated with Arve Tellefsen, amongst others, and was featured in the British magazine The Strad on three separate occasions.
The members of Trio no Treble are versatile musicians with regular engagements with, among others, the Trondheim Soloists and the Trondheim Symphony Orchestra. All hold bachelor’s and master’s degrees from the NTNU Department of Music.
